Manage.Complexity

Mastering a challenging world with self-determination.

Develop and train the ability to respond confidently to the unexpected, challenges, and uncertainties.

The goal

The more complex the world around us becomes, the harder it is for us to make wise decisions. In this continuously accelerating and dynamic environment, our previous ways of thinking and planning are often no longer effective enough. Our stability and security are shaken. The way out is for us to adapt. To learn to accept uncertainties and respond flexibly to the unexpected instead of rigidly holding onto plans. To explore new ways of thinking and find unexpected solutions. At first glance, it may seem unexpected: we can also see our own uncertainty as an advantage, as a resource that keeps us alert and allows us to seize previously unseen opportunities. This seminar aims to establish the necessary inner stability, supported by values and a conscious mindset, as well as sustainable relationships with other people who share our life path. Building on the latest insights from psychology, philosophy, evolutionary biology, and complexity research, you will be equipped to navigate successfully into the future.

What is Reality?

Module 1

What is Reality? Our worldview reflected in neuroscience and quantum physics.

As modern humans, we all consider ourselves realists. We believe in verifiable facts and stand on the ground of reality. But what is the actual nature of this foundation of our beliefs? What does “real” actually mean? Neuroscience and psychology impressively demonstrate that our perception is always subject to various distortions. We often only take note of what fits into our preconceived patterns of experiences and beliefs. The most fundamental of all sciences, quantum physics, also has an (un)clear opinion about reality. With its help, this module presents a radically different perspective.

By Listening, We Open Up (Thinking) Spaces.

Module 2

By Listening, We Open Up (Thinking) Spaces.Better ideas through more diverse input.

We naturally assume that good ideas arise from solitary, intense, contemplative thinking. But that is a myth. Most and best ideas are generated collectively. We bring them to life by listening to each other because listening accelerates the self-organizing processes of thinking. And since we do not all have the same perception of reality, unbiased listening is the key to gaining a comprehensive view of the world, its problems, and potential solutions. This module provides you with the tools to do so.

Laws of Complexity.

Module 3

Laws of Complexity. And how to handle it wisely.

Everything has become so complicated all of a sudden. What the heck has actually changed so profoundly in the last few decades? This module highlights the challenges we are facing and how the law of self-organization can help solve them. Because only those who understand the fundamental laws of complexity can handle them wisely.

Every Individual Counts.

Module 4

Every Individual Counts. The psychology of networks.

Who decides which idea is successful? And how can we influence it from various positions within a company without manipulative tactics? This module helps you better understand the structure of the social network. And you will learn how to use it for real, sustainable change processes.

Cognition & Emotion.

Module 5

Cognition & Emotion. How rational are our decisions?

Our thinking and decision-making are influenced by many uncertainties, emotions, judgments, and methodologies. In light of all these factors, is it even possible to make pure and rational decisions? This module explores all these influences on human thinking and helps sharpen our tools for making rational decisions.

Wise Decisions.

Module 6

Wise Decisions. And the art of making them.

We constantly have to make decisions whose consequences are not immediately apparent. Almost always with too little time to explore all relevant scenarios and parameters. In order to make responsible choices under these circumstances, it helps to broaden our perspective and reflect on what truly matters to us in life, independent of individual decisions. This module provides useful guidance for making wise decisions in the future.

A Multitude of Ways.

Module 7

A Multitude of Ways. To a fulfilling future.

Our future will either be sustainable or it won't exist at all. Economic growth and value creation will no longer come from exploiting new resources, but from transformation and renewal. We will shift from linear production chains to thinking in creative cycles. This module explores how this mindset can change the world and enrich our lives. As a bonus, we will also explore our personal future within this context.
